Assist the Special Education Department by working collaboratively with supervisors, school administrators, teachers and others in facilitating, coordinating, and supporting the development and implementation of Special Education programs and services to enhance the effectiveness of classroom instruction and maximize student achievement through the design and delivery of high quality work. Assist in directing the school system’s Special Education program, and ensure that the implementation of the program is in accordance with local, state, and federal policies, rules and regulations according to assigned field area.

Certifications, Licenses or Permits: 

• Valid Georgia Educator Certificate in Educational Leadership or related experience required.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements: 

• Master’s degree or higher in a Special Education Field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in special education or leadership.
• Proven ability to work with others in a confidential, cooperative, and service-oriented manner; excellent listening and communication skills.
• Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
• Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
• May be regularly required to stand, sit, crouch, crawl, push/pull, and lift up to 50lbs.

• Knowledge of and understanding of IDEA, special education programming, Georgia Special Education Rules and Regulations and due process procedures related to special education.  
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of state and federal special education requirements.  
• Specific knowledge and expertise in leading and coordinating special education facilitators, transition activities for students with disabilities, and educational programming for students.
• Ability to effectively conduct and/or participate in the IEP process and demonstrate expertise in effectively providing appropriate modifications based on the IEP. 
• Ability to investigate and use new strategies for delivering student services by conducting or participating in continuing professional development. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.
