POSITION SUMMARY

Work collaboratively with supervisors, school administrators, teachers and others in facilitating, coordinating and supporting the development and implementation of academic programs and services to enhance the effectiveness of classroom instruction and maximize student achievement through the design and delivery of high quality work. Assist in directing the school system’s Special Education program and ensure that the implementation of the program in is accordance with local, state, and federal policies, rules and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certifications, Licenses or Permits:

Valid Georgia Educator Certificate in Educational Leadership or related experience required.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:

Master’s degree or higher in a Special Education Field.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in special education or leadership.
Proven ability to work with others in a confidential, cooperative, and service-oriented manner; excellent listening and communication skills.
Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
May be regularly required to stand, sit, crouch, crawl, push/pull, and lift up to 50lbs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assist in providing direction in special education programs in the areas of curriculum and instruction, legal and policy matters, and administrative services.
Assist in implementing procedures for assessing the effectiveness of the Special Education Programs, establishing new programs and developing improved understanding of existing programs.
Work cooperatively with curriculum coordinators, teachers and administrators to develop and promote an understanding of Special Education and its relationship to the general education programs.
Serve as chairperson of eligibility meetings countywide, and placement committee meetings at assigned schools. Assist in consulting, coordinating, and communicating with local school administrators the needs of Special Education students at the local school level. Submit all requested reports and any other information on a timely basis.
Effectively conduct and/or participate in the IEP process and demonstrate expertise in effectively providing appropriate modifications based on the IEP.
Assist in evaluating system-wide personnel who are assigned to Special Education and provide appropriate staff development opportunities for teachers and administrators concerning all aspects of the Special Education Program to improve classroom instruction of special education students.
Assist in identifying and utilizing all available resources when necessary to the full operation of the Special Education Program, keep informed of grants for special education and write federal/state projects as required.
Assist in reporting correctly and accurately all Special Education enrollment information for each FTE student count in the school year.
Perform other duties as assigned.
